Robert Downey Jr Returns to Marvel as Doctor Doom

What Happened?

At the famous Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con, a familiar face was announced as the newest actor to play an iconic comic book character. He stepped forward onto the stage wearing a silver mask and revealed himself as 59-year-old Robert Downey Jr. Marvel Cinematic Universe was making another film called Avengers: Doomsday, and Downey Jr will play the main supervillain, Doctor Doom. The character will wear the silver mask that Downey Jr wore at Comic-Con. You probably know Downey Jr for playing Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man. He began his journey back in 2008 in the movie Iron Man and he acted in numerous films like Captain America: Civil War until Iron Man’s death in 2019 in the film, Endgame.

Why did he Return?

After Endgame, Downey Jr said he wasn’t fully closing the door on acting with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a 2020 interview with Joe Regan, Downey Jr said he wants to play a new character while still being Iron Man. He said this, “There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious.” (From Screen Rant).

People’s Thoughts

After Downey Jr took off his mask and revealed his face, the crowd was shocked and confused to see him on stage. Immediately, they all knew he would be in another Marvel movie. A fan said, “When he appeared on stage, I thought he was just a new actor, but when he took off the mask, everyone jumped up in shock and excitement,” (From Google Search).
