The Vampire Mystery

The story all started when Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny, were at the library checking out a book. The book was called The Vampire Legend. Benny, one of the Alden children, asked his brother Henry to read to him. Jessie, also one of the Aldens, told them that they had to leave because they were supposed to go meet Grandfather Alden at his friend’s house.

When they got there, Grandfather Alden introduced them to one of his friends, Charles Hudson. Benny then pointed out that he was The Vampire Legends’ author! Just as Benny said that Mr. Hudson was the author of the book a big blue car screeched to a halt in front of the house. A young man in a business suit came out of the car and hammered a “For Sale” sign into the lawn. Mr. Hudson said that that was his realtor. He also said that his name was Josh and told them to check out his backyard which contained a small graveyard which they might find interesting. Just as they were about to go out the back door Josh spoke up. He asked if Mr. Hudson had ever seen a vampire in the graveyard. Mr. Hudson said that was just an old folk-story and not to worry, so the children went into the backyard.

While they were looking at the tombstones of some of the people that were buried there, Violet saw someone wearing a cape running away.

Mr. Hudson said during lunch that he wants to make The Vampire Legends into a movie. But, since people were going to come and look over the house, he could not go anywhere to pitch his movie idea. The Alden’s said that they could look after the house while he was away.

After a few days when they were coming to greet Mr. Hudson after his return trip they saw a police car going away. Mr. Hudson had said that somebody snuck into his house. When they were there somebody was running away and one of the police officers ran after him. A few minutes later and the police came back to the house. The person that was in handcuffs was Mr. Hudson’s brother! Mr. Hudson said that he was his brother and said for the police to let him go. Then Mr. Hudson’s brother, Francis, said that a long time ago they had had a fight and he had run away. When he got older, he realized that he missed his brother and his house. But when he flew here, he saw the “For Sale” sign and got angry. So that’s why he pretended to be the vampire so no one would want to buy it. He then apologized for scaring people and the children.
