“Teeth brushed, face washed, and nightgown on, I think you’re ready for bed!” MMom smiled at six-year old you, waddling to your bed, clutching your unicorn blankie tight in your hands. You heaved yourself onto bed, and mom gently tucked you in.

“Mommy? Can you read me a story? One about a princess like me?”

“Of course, my princess, how about this one?”

“Yes please!”

Once Upon a time, in a land far, far, away, there lived a princess with long, golden hair. She lived in a beautiful palace alone with her mother, the Queen, her father, the King, disappeared right after she was born.

“Hey! That’s like you and me!” you whispered to mom.

“Yes, yes it is.”

One day, after her mother kissed her on the head and tucked her into bed, the princess heard a voice, “Hello?” it was soft, nearly a whisper, and it seemed to be coming from under her bed! The curious princess peeked under her bed, and she was so surprised! There was a monster under her bed!

But the princess wasn’t scared, she softly asked the monster, “Are you okay? Where’s your mommy?” Then, the monster started to cry! “My m-mommy, she l-left me!” the monster wept. The princess felt bad for the poor monster and let the monster sleep in her bed, and shared her blankie. The two became best friends and lived with the Queen in her palace, happily ever after.

The end.

“See, it wasn’t so bad after all! They became friends and lived a happy life,” mom gently kissed your forehead and turned off the lights.

“Goodnight mommy”

“Goodnight my princess”

You drifted peacefully off to sleep, dreaming of unicorns and fairies at tea parties, when suddenly, you heard a sudden movement. A movement that seemed to be coming from under your bed.

Slowly, you got out of bed, your knuckles white from holding onto your blankie so tight, and peered under your bed.

There, under your bed, a pair of dead, black, psychopath eyes, stared piercingly, right, at, you.

Your heart skipped a beat, but suddenly, you remembered the story of the princess, so weakly, you whispered to the man, “H-hello? A-Are you ok?”

And he croaked back, in a shrill voice, sending shivers up your spine.

“I am, now that you’re here.”

“N-now that I’m here?”

“Yes, I’ve been waiting for you.”

Your eyes widened at the words, “W-waiting for me?”

“Yes, you take a very long time to brush your teeth.”

“B-but why have you been waiting for me?”

“Because,” the mysterious man smirked, “I’m your father, and I need you to come with me.”

“M-my father? B-but mommy said I don’t have a father?”

“Well, your mommy was lying, because I’m your father and I’m taking you somewhere fun.”

“Fun?” you thought for a moment. “Yes, I like fun, where are we going?”

The man smiled wickedly as he got up from under the bed and towering over you, “It’s a surprise.”

“I love surprises!” you squealed and took his hand as he led you out the window.

Ten years later, you were still holding onto his hand, the hand of your kidnapper.
