Auran had grown used to being dead now. He had been a ghost for 5 years now. Most ghosts must solve their “unfinished business” before they can happily lay their souls to rest, but Auran didn’t have any of the sort; he was what they called a “wandering soul”, who are a group of ghosts who could move on whenever they want but decide not to.

As Auran floated through the streets, he noticed people putting up colorful lights and decorations. It was Christmas: the most joyful time of year for the living and the melancholiest for the dead.

Auran felt especially lonely today and decided to visit his old house. When he arrived, it was abandoned and empty. After he walked around the house, he suddenly felt hungry. He walked out of the house and heard some music coming from the forest.

Following the sounds, he floated into a clearing. There was a small restaurant named “The Wandering Souls Cafe”. Auran walked in and saw that the whole place was filled with ghosts.

“One eggnog please.” he asked the cashier in the front.

“You’re new here, aren’t you?” The cashier asked him as she gave him the eggnog.

“Yup.” Auran answered.

“Do you need a place to stay? We also have a hotel.” The cashier pointed to a sign that said “Wandering Souls Hotel”.

“That would be nice.” Auran replied, “Where do I check-in?”

The cashier handed him a room card, “Right here. You can stay as long as you want. There’s breakfast down here from 6 – 10 am.”

Auran walked up to his room and smiled. It felt good to finally have a home.
