After a stunning 37-match win streak that began in February, Iga Swiatek’s has finally lost. In the third round of Wimbledon, Alize Cornet handed the world number one her first defeat since in nearly half a year. Cornet beat the Polish Swiatek 6-4 6-2 to reach the pre-quarterfinals for the first time since 2014. After the match, Cornet said that the win reminded her of her 2014 upset against the former number one, Serena Williams, on that same court.

Swiatek’s win streak was the longest in 32 years, tying Martina Hingis’ record of 37 wins.

But at Wimbledon, Swiatek committed 33 unforced errors, compared to Cornet’s seven. Swiatek lacked confidence on grass, having not played a tournament since the French Open, which was on clay. She said “The thing that I changed this season is I started being more and more aggressive. It was really comfortable for me to have the initiative and be proactive. But here I couldn’t control the ball.”

Earlier on Saturday, Amanda Anisimova beat Coco Gauff in the fourth round. Gauff was the French Open runner-up to Swiatek last month. At 18 years old, she is also the youngest woman in the top 140 of the world rankings by more than a year. Gauff struggled to win points off of the first serve, while the more powerful Anisimova hit 26 winners. Anisimova’s next match is against Harmony Tan, the Frenchwoman who beat former number one Serena Williams in the tournament’s first round.
