Smashed racquets ricochet off the ground the rowdy crowd screams, shouts, and boos — the director of this circus? Nick Kyrgios.

On Saturday night, Kyrgios dismantled his higher ranked opponent, Stefanos Tsitsipas, with astonishing efficiency. By pairing his unbelievable natural talent for tennis with his constant antics, Kyrgios broke down the World no.5 with a 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7) Win.

As the Wimbledon draw continues play out, the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, household tennis names, are battling to stay in the tournament. However, on the other side of the bracket, Nick Kyrgios, an explosive force imbued with so much natural talent and so combustive and temperamental force seems to be cruising through.

During his match with Tsitsipas, Kyrgios spent most of his time berating the umpires for not defaulting Tsitsipas after he nearly missed a crowd member in the head with a ball. These endless complaints eventually started to wear on his opponent until Tsitsipas hit a breaking point and started to purposely hit Kyrgios with flying balls. The Wimbledon crowd grew louder with each confrontation between the players turning the match into a circus.

At Wimbledon, Kyrgios has continuously used underhand serves, a tactic which is considered disrespectful to the opponent, in the match with Tsitsipas these serves seemed to rattle him eventually leading him to blast a ball into the stands. Kyrgios Eventually went on to win the match in straight sets after he broke Tsitsipas down mentally.

Throughout Kyrgios’s other matches, his behavior has remained consistent; smashing racquets, yelling at the crowd, berating umpires and linesmen, and winning. His antics on court have proved to be at least not damaging to his level and maybe even beneficial to him in deteriorating his opponents focus.

Nick Kyrgios victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas puts him in a position to face the American Brandon Nakashima on Monday. This also puts “the bad boy” of tennis in a position only 4 wins away from the title.
