The NFL decided to indefinitely suspend Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns quarterback, for at least one year at a hearing anticipated to begin Tuesday in front a new disciplinary officer.
Watson was accused of sexual misconduct in two dozen civil lawsuits filed by women. He violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy and is required to be suspended without pay for at least the duration of the 2022 season. He is expected to argue to the former U.S. district judge Sue L. Robinson, the disciplinary officer for a lesser consequence. How ever fans of both the Texans (the team that recently traded him) and the Browns do not support his case by making comparisons of him with Bill Cosby on Twitter.
Watson has not been charged with a crime and has denied all allegations against him. He settled in 20 of the 24 lawsuits filed against him. The NFL said the civil settlements would have no effect on the league’s decision for Watson’s repercussion.
Watson has remained inactive since last season, but he was not suspended and was paid his salary in full.
