Recently, Mr. Zania Matapour stormed a few locations, along with a gay bar, while armed. He has been arrested, and charged with murder, attempted murder, and terrorist acts, for the killing of 2 and wounding 21.

Thousands of people flowed onto the street, waving rainbow pride flags. Many items were placed in remembrance of the injustice of what happened that day. A memorial service was held at Oslo Cathedral for all the victims. Candles have been lit for all victims, with Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit attending the service as well.

Many people are counting this attack as an act of extreme Islamic terror, and that the man who shot his gun at a bar, had already been dealing with some mental health problems. Matapour also has had a few run-ins with the law and had also had people comment that he was violent to those around him.

After this attack, the leaders of Oslo Pride canceled all pride events due to police concerns. However, a spontaneous march in the afternoon happened, with many holding pride flags to pay tribute to the victims. Many others gave flowers, and some openly condemned this horrid event, like Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store described it as “a cruel and deeply shocking attack on innocent people”, with The London Pub calling it this attack “pure evil.” Even Norway’s King Harald said that his family and him were horrified by this, and that they must defend their values against people like this.

A woman who was a neighbor of the shooter feels threatened due to the fact that her partner was a woman as well. This shooting has only strengthened support for LBGTQ+ in Norway, after such a horrific incident.
