On June 13, 2022, the Golden States Warriors won the 2022 NBA Championship, giving Stephen Curry his first MVP title of all time.
Two weeks ago, the Warriors beat the Celtics 3-2 in the series, winning the finals of 2022 and giving Stephen Curry his first NBA Finals MVP award.
Ever since Curry has been on the team, the Warriors have won three championships before this year. However, despite his outstanding performances in the past, he didn’t win the title of MVP until this year, making it one of his greatest accomplishments. Standing at only 6’2, Curry is on the shorter side of the NBA players. In fact, he’s one of the shortest players to ever win the title of MVP. The title ‘MVP’ is named after 11-time champion Bill Russell, a legendary basketball player who stands at 6’10. Curry winning this title proves to people that, although he might be shorter than others, it does not hinder him in any way.
“You’ve never seen a guy his size dominate the league like this and just to put the weight of everything on his shoulders throughout a Finals series,” Golden State forward Andre Iguodala told reporters.
Despite all Curry’s accomplishments, he is still humble and a great leader. During an interview when first asked about his MVP title, Curry smacks the table and says playfully, “Forget that question! Why you start with that question?” Furthermore, his Coach, Stephen Kerr, compares him to Tim Duncan, one of the greatest NBA basketball players of all time who was known for his humility and leadership.
“We’re getting away from appreciating,” Iguodala said while discussing talented players like Curry. “I call them gods — that very unique talent, generational talent. Because we are so close to them, we don’t appreciate them as much. When he’s gone, we’re really going to miss him and forget how much of an impact not just on the Warriors or the NBA but on the entire globe. You know, like he made the world move.”
