Kelly didn’t know how long she had been working but knew it was long since the sun had just set. The kids that played basketball earlier were gone. Their noises were replaced by the eerie stillness of the night and the distant chirps of crickets.
Her temples ached as she massaged them. Closing her computer, the once bright light that filled her room was replaced with darkness. However, just as she was about to get up and turn on the lights, a loud scraping noise made her jump in fright, like a cat jumping away from a vacuum cleaner.
Kelly walked towards the window and peered down, sighing in relief that it was just the person she expected.
“Slipped on a stick, didn’t mean to knock down your bike.” A tiny boy with freckles and beautiful green eyes looked up at her, smiling apologetically while putting her bike upright. It was her neighbor, Eric.
“Eric, you shouldn’t come at this time! What are you thinking? It’s past nine! I told you to meet at eight!” Kelly whispered, aggravated.
She glanced back, trembling slightly that her parents might burst into her room and catch her red-handed.
“Well, Kelly. I was thinking.”
Even in the dark moonlight, Kelly could see that Eric was blushing.
“I could join the drama club but play the lady’s role.”
Kelly was shocked; she couldn’t utter anything, but when Eric proposed the idea, she saw beauty in the little boy’s eyes and clothes.
She noticed his hair was long and curly, like Merida, and his eyes were green and shiny, like Rapunzel’s.
She couldn’t do anything but smile.
“Well, then. I wish you the best of luck,” Kelly said.
