Trying to outplay his main rival presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Donald Trump, for the 2024 presidential election, Ron DeSantis has tried to use his youth and role as a father of three to gain votes from younger people.
Ron DeSantis is the Republican governor of Florida and is a father of three children ages six, five, and three years old. Aged 44 years old and married to Casey DeSantis, he is one of the presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election.
DeSantis has indirectly used his youth in his campaign, evidently contrasting himself with his main two rivals, President Biden, who is 80 years old, and Former President Donald J. Trump, who just turned 77.
“Isn’t it kind of just symbolic of the state of the country?” DeSantis said during a radio interview. “You have a president who lacks energy, who’s stumped, stumbling around. No leadership for the country’s future.”
However, because of his conservative views on abortion, climate change, and race, many people within his age bracket do not support him. According to Quinnipiac polls, only about a third of all voters between the ages of 35 and 49 would vote for DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election.
Part of that is because many people don’t think DeSantis is successful in capturing youthful enthusiasm, and they believe former president Barack Obama did it better by gaining the support of young cultural icons, such as pop and hip-hop artists. DeSantis, however, hardly mentions music, television shows, or social media.
His children, though, are a big part of his presidential campaign. They are visible to the public, and he can relate to parents with young children. DeSantis is also one of the few presidential candidates with young children still at home, compared to Biden and Trump, who already have several grandchildren. Many people, such as Janie Jackson, 52 years old and a Democratic business owner in Miami, have softened their r views on DeSantis because of his role as a father of young children and a husband.
“I don’t like him as a politician,” Jackson said. “But I think he’s a good father and husband.
The candidate most impacted by these aspects of DeSantis’ campaign is one of his main rivals, Trump, who has divorced twice and has five children across three women.
