I went camping, but not really. I had gone camping before, so I knew what it was like, but not this time. It was an event with friends. We had set up tents in the grassy field of a local school. We had a fire going in the middle of the baseball field. There were containers of food, things like macaroni and cheese and eggs. The school had a plastic fake climbing wall in the playground. The parents that organized the event had us all go to the campfire. There we sang songs and played skits. At last, all performed some skits that we had practiced in small groups for the past 30 minutes.

The most active organizer is a guy named Mo, who is a parent of one of the older kids. He had a playful personality and engaged in all the activities along with the kids. He had a ton of the parents that were involved in the event do a skit together, and those skits were always somehow the best, funniest, and most cohesive ones.

In the end, we all went to bed… This is the end of the story, right?

Wrong! Each and every one of us woke up around 5 in the morning, with everyone absolutely drenched in water. Turns out, it was raining AND the school’s sprinklers were on as well. Everyone had a good laugh about it, and just stayed awake until the sprinklers turned off. We then packed up our tents and sleeping bags, ate breakfast, and went back to our homes. I would imagine even now, there are still some of us that, every time they see a sprinkler system in motion, think about that one night where everyone was soaked in their tents.
