Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has set yet another world record.
Earlier this week, the soccer legend played his 200th match representing his home country against Iceland. He dominated the field, scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.
The Guinness Book of World Records honored him for being the only player in the world to accomplish this feat. After the game, Ronaldo spoke to UEFA TV: “It’s the kind of moment you never expect, to reach 200 caps. For me, it’s an unbelievable achievement. To be in the Guinness World Records is amazing and to score the winning goal is even more special.”
Ronaldo has yet another record on his belt now. He is the sport’s leading goal-scorer with 840 goals and counting. As a left winger, this is a rather astonishing accomplishment. He has played for Europe’s top clubs and has scored goals for Portugal in five World Cups. Because of his unparalleled success in UEFA Champions League matches, he has earned the nickname Mr UCL.
In 2022, Ronaldo was in the news for a very public split from Manchester United. In an interview with British TV journalist Piers Morgan, he claimed that he felt “betrayed and disrespected” by the club. After months of talk about discontentment, he moved to Saudi club Al Nassr. At age 38, he remains one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.
Known for his physical strength, agility and coordination, Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in the world. He even has a galaxy named after him called CR7, representing his initials and jersey number. And with over 590 million Instagram followers, he is the most followed person on the web.
For the time being, he has no plans to retire. So keep watching this legend win trophies and set records!
