After an almost decade-long conflict between Dr. Luke and Kesha, the musicians announced a joint statement on Thursday, June 22, 2023, on both of their instagrams.

Producer and songwriter Dr. Luke was accused by Kesha of rape in a 2014 lawsuit and their conflict had been ongoing ever since. The statements that were posted on both of their accounts respectively, said that they both “agreed to a joint resolution of the lawsuit”, and that they were going to trial next month in New York.

Along with their statements, there were a pair of quotes that were included. Kesha said, “Only God knows what happened that night. As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter in my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”

Dr. Luke, on the other hand wrote, “While I appreciate Kesha again acknowledging that she cannot recount what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened. I never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone. For the sake of my family, I have vigorously fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years. It is time for me to put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.”

This whole conflict started in 2014 when Kesha claimed that she should be released from her recording contract because Dr. Luke, her producer, had “sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused” her since she was a teenager. She also mentioned thatshe was drugged and raped by Dr. Luke after a party in 2005.

In the 2014 lawsuit, Kesha claimed that she suffered abuse from Dr. Luke, including insults about her looks and weight, to the points she “nearly lost her life.” “I cannot work with this monster. I physically cannot. I don’t feel safe in any way”, Kesha wrote in 2015.

However, lawyers for Dr. Luke suspected that the allegations from Kesha, her lawyer, and her mother came from a contract negotiation that began in 2013.

In his countersuit for defamation in New York, Dr. Luke mentioned the contracts Kesha signed in 2005, as well as a deposition in 2011 where Kesha said, “Dr. Luke never made sexual advances at me.”

Still, no criminal charges were ever filed in this case.
