A train carrying hazardous materials derailed into Montana’s Yellowstone River while crossing a bridge early last Sunday. The incident caused 7 railcars, three of them containing asphalt, and four of them containing molten sulfur, to fall in the River.
Drinking water in Yellowstone County is not currently affected, says KC Williams, the director of Emergency Management for Yellowstone County. Despite this assurance, this incident raises worries from the inhabitants of Yellowstone County about the safety of railway tracks and the effects the crash might have on their community.
The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. local time while the train traveled west. Nobody was hurt. State officials are warning the public to stay away from parts of the river due to “potential contaminants.”
