I was running to Sarah’s house, I could already hear her squealing, “Oh my god, Holly! Yes! I would love to come! When do we leave? Is it going to be cold? Tell me everything about the trip!”
Quickly I rang the doorbell to her house and Sarah’s mom opened the door for me.
“Hi Holly! Your dad texted me about the trip and I told him that Sarah would love to come.”
I nodded along, “I was coming over to ask if you had told Sarah about the trip to go to Lake Tahoe.”
“Well, I haven’t told her yet. Would you like to tell her?”
Without saying anything I nodded and ran to her room, barging into it to find Sarah on her bed looking at her phone.
“Get your butt of that bed. You’re coming to Lake Tahoe with me,” I said making Sarah drop the phone on her face.
The next day had finally arrived. My dad put our luggage in the trunk. My brother and his friend Sam sat in the back seat. Sarah and I sat in the middle of the car and my mom and dad sat in the front.
Hours passed, and the car got colder and colder … until it stopped. We all piled out of the car and got ahold their things, we arrived at a hotel. My mom and my dad approached the door and opened it.
Suddenly I heard my phone ring. Sarah’s phone also began to ring. We both looked at the caller, then each other, and then looked at the others’ phone, confused. “How is this possible? Why is the same person calling us at the same time?” I asked.
Just as we were both swiping the answer button, my dad called us over to the elevator. Both of us hung up and shoved our phones into our pockets.
The elevator doors opened, and we all stepped in. Dad pushed a button, and we ascended to our floor.
“Okay, Holly and Sarah, your room is 207,” my dad said handing us a card. He did the same for my brother and his friend.
Quickly we scanned the hallway, opened our door, then slammed it shut.
When Sarah and I got settled in our own room, our phones started ringing again. The caller was the same person that tried calling us before. We both picked the call, and we heard a woman speaking. “Hello Sarah, hello Holly. A drone is on your way.”
I went to the window to see a drone coming towards us. It shoved the window open, and some snow came into our room along with a package. Sarah opened the box. Inside we saw a device and then a person’s face popped onto the screen.
“Hello again, Holly and Sarah. I am Alice, a boss of detectives. We find treasure and antiques to donate to the museum. “I don’t have time to tell you everything, but do you agree to help us?” Alice asked. Sarah and I thought for a moment and, after exchanging a look, we both nodded.
“There are two things in the box. A bag and a backpack. Inside the bags are supplies that you will need. Don’t forget that there is a lighter so be careful when you use it.” Alice said firmly. “Okay, now jump into the box and you will be transported to your destination. Bye and good luck.” Alice’s face disappeared.
“We should tell our parents that we want a day off for today.” Sarah said.
“Okay but let’s just tell them that we will take a walk.” I replied nervously. I went to my mom and said, “Mom, Sarah and I are going on a walk.”
“Okay, come back at 9.” My mom said, looking at us suspiciously. Sarah and I went into our room. Sarah put her long hair into a bun, and I picked up a bag. Before we knew it, we had jumped into the box.
The world twisted until it came to a stop. As we opened our eyes, we saw a temple. We got out of the box and took it under a tucked away tree. Then we ran to the building on a steep hill. Sarah took out a rope, made a knot and threw it on a big rock on a hill and we climbed to the top.
The entrance led to a dark hallway. Sarah lit up a torch and we walked inside.
“Look! There’s a chest there,” I whispered.
We stopped; people were walking towards them! Quickly, Sarah blew out the torch and we ran in the direction of the chest. The people behind us were running even faster!
I felt around urgently until I grabbed the handle. Sarah and I lifted the chest and hid in the shadows. Soon I spotted a door. I signaled Sarah to follow me, we lifted the chest and walked towards the door. I pushed it and ran outside throwing the box down the hill hoping that it would not break. Luckily there was a path leading down the hill. Sarah and I ran down the path, picking up the box along the way and jumped into the box. The world started to spin again, and we found ourselves in our room. We looked outside, not a single second had gone by!
I looked around and saw that the drone had already picked up the chest and flew out. Sarah ran to the window to close before snow started to pile in. Both of us collapsed onto the bed. What an adventure!
Quickly I rang the doorbell to her house and Sarah’s mom opened the door for me.
