UEFA European Women’s Championship 2025
The Women’s Euro Cup is a widely known tournament featuring women’s football, with teams from Europe competing for the trophy. Here’s what to know & expect from the Women’s Euro Cup 2025.
England is looking to defend their victory from Euro 2022, and another team, Wales will make their first appearance in an international tournament.
The Cup will be played in Switzerland, while other matches are to be played across the country.
Switzerland doesn’t have an official capital city, but the largest city is Zurich, with the government being in Bern – both cities will be hosting games during the tournament. The Cup will start in Thun, with the final held at St Jakob-Park in Basel. Some other city hosts are Geneva, St Gallen, Lucerne, and Sion.
Germany, Spain, England are some of the strongest teams to be competing. England’s Lionesses are a particularly tough group this year. But, they’ve had mixed performances during the Nations League.
Wales women‘s national football team, Cymru, will enter the Euro Cup this year. They have high hopes for their first women’s team appearance at the Euro’s.
The structure of this competition is similar to the World Cup. Teams will randomly be put into groups that will play against each other– they will get 3 points for a win, one for a tie, and none for a loss.
Lastly, the competition features many stars. One is Aitana Bonmatí (midfielder for Spain) who had won the Ballon d’Or last year. Another star is Alessia Russo, who is to be “England’s main goal-scorer.claims BBC Sport’s Nesta McGregor.
The Wales team has announced the players, including Cymru’s star, Jess Fishlock, their record goal scorer. Lastly, Sophie Ingle, who is the former captain is announced to return from injury and play for the Wales in the Euro Cup 2025.
