On June 11, 2022, famous pop singer Justin Bieber was afflicted by Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

The syndrome is caused by a virus related to chickenpox and is named after Dr. James Ramsay Hunt, who first documented it. Symptoms include facial paralysis—an effect that caused Justin Bieber to reschedule three concerts.

“You would not be able to move your mouth and you won’t be able to do any facial expressions because of it,” he said. “I’m gonna get better. I’m doing all these exercises to get my face back to normal – and it will go back to normal.”

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, and has caused my face to have paralysis,” Bieber continued.

But will he ever recover? We don’t know for sure, but according to the British charity Facial Palsy in the U.K., 70 percent of those who receive treatment early will recover fully.
