Wait Till Helen Comes Book Review
Abby A.

Imagine if you had to have a difficult stepsister who was always trying to ruin your relationship with your parent. Your stepsister even has a ghost as a friend. Is Helen, your sister’s ghost friend, real? Well that was exactly what Molly and Michael had to deal with.

Although Michael did not believe Heather, their stepsister, about Helen, Molly did. She believed Helen existed to the point of paranoia. Heather believed that Molly, Michael, and their mom ruined her perfect family, which included her grandma, father, and herself. She kept saying how Helen was coming for them. Helen really did. She ruined everything in Molly’s, Michael’s, and their mother’s room. Until then, Michael still did not believe that Helen was a ghost that existed.

A theme that stood out to me was This novel stylized how blended families will, at the beginning or later, struggle. These struggles can be overcome by at least trying to accept one another and work like a family. Another major theme that stood out was grief. Heather’s connection to Helen came from her grief and regret from her loneliness and her mother’s death.

In my opinion, the book was very interesting. It has pretty simple diction, and it’s a great book for road trips, especially if your vocabulary is not that strong. I really liked how descriptive the book was. The descriptions helped me visualize the story, such as their home or their hobbies. These supported me to get to know more about each individual character they were talking about. I didn’t like how Heather was acting, but I understood her doings from the later explanation provided in the book. I would say the book is a slow burn type of book. It took a while for actual action to come from Helen. However, when the action did occur, it was worth it. Out of 10 stars, I would give it a 9/10. The book lost a point from me because it really wasn’t the scariest type of story to me. Though, if you like horror books, but you have a limit, this book is definitely perfect for you.
