US and Iran Peace Deal
Recently, the US and Iran have been working on a peace deal to end the war between the two nations, who have been at war for months.
In 1979, the Iranian people overthrew their leader, the shah, because of his western influence and made Iran an Islamic republic. Many militant groups were created, such as Hezbollah, and tensions grew between American and Iran. The US first bombed Iran in February.
In the war, the Iranians have closed the Strait of Hormuz, a major trade route, preventing oil and gas trade, which contributed to America’s high gas prices. The US and Iran currently have a cease-fire agreement, but the Strait of Hormuz is still closed.
Both sides believe that the deal is mostly settled, with Iran promising to open the Strait of Hormuz, but Iran’s government hasn’t confirmed the deal
The deal involves two main parts. The first part involves stopping the fighting between the two countries and opening up the Strait of Hormuz to continue trade, especially of oil. Iran also has a nuclear program, with some uranium stored. They claim it is only for power generation and peaceful use, but western people are doubtful. In the first phase of the deal, Iran will not be allowed to work on their nuclear technologies. The second part will be figured out in the next couple months. It will involve the details of how Iran’s nuclear program will be controlled, making sure everyone stays safe.
The peace deals far from confirmed, and not yet finalized. It will need to be agreed on by both sides. Many people have different opinions on the deal, with some people saying Trump should increase demands. Trump thinks that the US have won the war saying, “We’re winning the war by a lot. We’ve decimated their whole evil empire. It’ll continue, I’m sure, for a little while.”
