The story of Robert the Bruce, the King of Scotland, and the spider, started a long time ago. King Bruce was hiding in a cave after six military defeats and was deciding whether or not to give up. He was very depressed after losing lost six military battles to the King of England, deeply disheartened and ready to surrender his cause.

Nearby, he noticed a small spider attempting to spin a web on the ceiling of the cave. The depressed king sat there and watched the spider fail miserably after six horrendous attempts. However, the spider never gave up and deliberately tried to climb and reach the web. As the little spider tried for the seventh and last time, it successfully reached the top of the ceiling and the web. Watching the resilient spider, King Bruce felt a rush of adrenaline and hope. He was inspired by the little spider and thought, ‘If a small spider could achieve its goals by repetitive trials, then maybe I can too.’

The brave King’s hope returned and he gathered up his army to fight the a seventh battle. King Bruce fought with all his might and remembered the spider. He courageously gathered his forces and eventually liberated his country. From that moment on, he fought with his renewed strength and and freed Scotland from the enemy. The moral from the story is telling us that: “If you want to succeed, keep on trying.”
