In April, Trump declared he will make changes to the famous reflecting pool in D.C. Trump said it will look cleaner before the U.S.A.‘s 250th national birthday. He also claimed that the changes will help the pool last longer. However, after spending 16.4 billion dollars on the repair, the pool looks worse than before!

The National Mall is a large open area in the center of Washington, DC. Because it is home to many U.S monuments, it is a popular tourist attraction. It lies between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

According to NFK, “The Reflecting Pool plays an important part in many famous pictures of the US capital. Many historic gatherings have taken place on the area around it.” The calm water of the pool normally reflects images of the nearby monument. However, the pool was built in the late 1920s on land that was once marshy. So over the years, the water in the pool has caused many problems. Between 2010 and 2012, the pool was closed for repair. The repair is mostly focused on removing the green algae. Trump also decided to paint the pool blue.

Trump was eager to finish the project before July 4th. Painting a pool so big would take months to paint and be repaired properly. Since Trump was so eager to finish it, the workers had to rush it. Mr. Trump says after the millions of dollars are spent, the leaks and cracks will be fixed.

Within days of refilling the pool, algae started to grow in the water again, turning the pool green. And it has remained green despite scrubbing and expensive equipment designed to clean the water.” It has gotten so bad the blue paint started to break into to chunks and started to float up on the surface. Many people think it was rushed and not ready for it to be released to the public yet.
