The Official Ball For The World Cup, Now Advanced

The official ball for the 2026 World Cup is very high-tech. At first glance, it may look like a normal soccer ball, or football. However, this isn’t any old ball. It has sensors installed inside to give more information about various details. This ball is called the trionda, which means three waves in Spanish.
The trionda is a very unique ball. It uses AI and has internal sensors, which collect data like how hard it was kicked, how high it was kicked, how fast it traveled, etc. Then, the AI processes the information. This feature was added to help referees decide things quickly and accurately. It can also give fans a little trivia about which kick was the most powerful or which kick went the fastest. However, this is not the only thing that was changed about this ball.
The outer shell of this ball is made out of four fluid panels. These groove lines have an effect on the ball’s aerodynamics, or how air interacts with the ball. According to the CBS Sports, Solene Stormann, Adidas’ director of football hardware, says, “it’s not about the amount of panels that dictate if it’s performing well or not, it’s more about the combination of the panel with its seam length and the debossing lines, how they are actually assorted around the ball, how they are homogeneously placed so that has actually [an] influence on all the aerodynamic criteria.”
The design of the trionda was made to represent the countries hosting the 2026 World Cup. This is the first time that three countries are hosting the World Cup. The maple leaf is for Canada, the star is for the US, and the eagle is for Mexico.
