The Farmer and the Pigeon
There once was a farmer who lived alone and grew crops very successfully. His life depended on the crops because they were his only food source. Then, a disastrous drought struck that completely changed the farmer’s life.
The farmer lived in the mountains, which had a perfect climate for growing crops, and grew his plants here. One day, the farmer woke up and found that his plants had completely shriveled and died. This had happened because a massive drought had come during the night. The farmer knew that his whole life depended on these plants.
The plants had plenty of sunlight, but there was no water at all. The farmer immediately went out to search for a water source. He searched and searched over hills and through valleys, but found nothing at all. It was already sunset, so he decided to go back and rest.
The next day, he woke up in the morning and searched for water, but still found nothing. Over and over, he looked for a water source but found nothing. He was completely worn out, tired, and thirsty after his seventh search.
The farmer collapsed on the ground, feeling absolutely helpless and defeated. The farmer looked up to find a pigeon on the branch collecting a lot of sticks. The first time, the sticks were blown away by the wind. Repeatedly, the bird failed until she had failed seven times. The farmer thought, “Poor bird, it must feel so helpless as well.” But the bird proved him wrong and tried one more time. This time, the nest stayed in place. The farmer thought, “I shall succeed the eighth time too!” And with that, the farmer set off in search of the water source.
He traveled for miles and miles until he spotted a tiny puddle of water. The farmer sprinted over to the puddle, scooped it up with a bucket, and ran home. He sprinkled his crops with the water and headed home for a good night’s rest at last. The next day, the farmer jolted out of bed and went to check his plants. To his delight, tiny saplings had sprouted out of the ground at last!
After the drought finally passed , the farmer lived a happy life with his plants and always made sure to feed the bird and watered her tree every day.
This story teaches us that giving up will harm you instead of help you. Therefore, you should always keep trying and never, ever give up.
