Adelina Otero-Warren, a leader in New Mexico’s movement for women’s right to vote, is getting a quarter made with her face on it to honor her work.

On August 15th, a quarter bearing Warrens face and yucca flowers, which are New Mexico’s state flower, will be released. Otero-Warren was born near Los Angles in 1881. Between two world wars, Warren took the role as superintendent of public schools in Santa Fe country. She fought against federal demands to assimilate Hispanic and Indigenous New Mexicans, by methods like banning their traditional languages and customs. She also argued that Spanish and English should be allowed in the same classroom.
