The famed British soccer team, Liverpool, landed in Thailand on Sunday in order to play against their rival Manchester United on a Tuesday game. Thai people show their enthusiasm for soccer as Liverpool arrives in Bangkok.
Before Liverpool arrived in Thailand this past Sunday, hundreds of fans gathered outside Bangkok Airport to catch a glimpse of the legendary team. Most admirers had waited for hours (some had even waited six hours!) before Liverpool landed, but even those who were 50 yards away couldn’t see the team. The extreme fervor was almost reminiscent of a pop concert because of how energetic the crowd was to see Liverpool.
The team carried out a traditional Thai welcome ceremony. Afterward, a press conference was arranged which was far from calm. The media poured over the barrier which was placed to keep them at a safe distance away from the conference table. This caused officials to pitifully scramble for a method of organizing the crowd of hungry reporters. In fact, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remarked, “I have never been to a press conference like this.” With reporters and manic fans crowding the area, it was quite clear that the Thai’s dedication to Liverpool is unmatched.
During the conference, the “energy” of the fans and the animosity between Manchester United and Liverpool were discussed. When referring to the passionate Thai welcome, Klopp jokingly asked, “Was it like this yesterday when Manchester United came?”
