On June 22, 2022, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida finally stated how they had captured a 215-pound snake that was found in the National Everglades Park.

The python carried 122 developing eggs, and biologists found evidence of an adult white-tailed deer inside. Burmese snakes are native to Southeast Asia but ended up in the everglades because they were brought for the reason of being an exotic pets. They were released when Hurricane Andrew hit a breeding center and the snakes landed themselves in swamps.

The White-tailed deer earlier played an important role as an important food source to the endangered species of Florida Panthers.

People are trying to stop the invasive species from further damaging the “food web” for other animals in the area, so they host competitions to find who can get their hands on the most pythons for prize money.
