Wrestling with a Fish
Whenever we played Capture the Flag
in my school
it was always like wrestling with a fish
The other side always had an unfair advantage
It was mostly because
We followed the rules
And the other side didn’t
Whether they were puppy-guarding the flag, surrounding it in a tight circle
or were pretending they didn’t get tagged, yelling, “I diDn’t gEt taGgeE!”
We all knew the other side’s players were lying
But they never got in trouble
Because the teachers weren’t paid enough to care
And to be honest?
I think they liked to see us fuming
But we couldn’t do anything ourselves because we had too much pride and dignity to cheat
In fact, they were almost like fish
Always wriggling of situations with their slimy, slippery scales
And their lies that spewed out of their mouths
Like bubbles out of a fish
We much prefer volleyball
Tater Tots
In my town, there was a police officer
and everyone called him
Tater Tots
Because every single day, he would be
at the town’s café,
spotted
eating
tater tots
O
n
e
day, however
he wasn’t in his usual position, in the booth by the window,
chowing down on
tater tots
This worried us, because we all loved Tater Tots,
And we were freaking out about him being sick or injured
So all of us
rode our bikes
to the police department, bringing a box of tater tots with us
for Tater Tots
just in case he was there
And as it turns out, he was being forced by his chief commander
to stop eating tater tots
because
he
was worried
about Tater Tots gaining weight
We were all angry that Tater Tots
wasn’t
allowed
to eat
any more tater tots
And we all held a meeting to decide what to do about this
in
the
end
we decided to hold
a protest
to let Tater Tots
eat
more
tater tots
On Saturday, we gathered in the town center, holding up signs that said:
Let Tater Tots eat his tater Tots!
Chanting the same words on our signs,
we stormed the police department
protesting
Tater Tot’s right
to eat
tater tots
and that’s the story
of how
we got Tater Tots to eat
tater tots
