Pen glides, thought takes flight—
a hush between heart and ink,
verse blooms into light.
A haiku is a Japanese poem that follows a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Haikus primarily focus on one vivid moment. This haiku captures the quiet, intimate moment of creation as someone writes a poem. The act of the pen gliding symbolizes the flow of inspiration, while the “hush” reflects the stillness and concentration required to channel emotion into words. Some challenges I faced were finding enough syllables and thinking about what could work. Last week, my first line of the poem disappeared so I am copying and pasting it again.
Pen glides, thought takes flight—
a hush between heart and ink,
verse blooms into light.
