In Pakistan, people know what to do when the rain comes, but this time, it came too quickly. A flashflood came and killed people’s livestock and ruined their crops. Ever since Pakistan flooded, people won’t buy much of anything besides boats. They use boats to travel from place to place. The boats they purchase cost 100-200 rupees.

It took nearly two days for Pakistanis to get their houses back to normal. After the flood came, everyone was working extra hard trying not to get their valuables broken or damaged. They put their valuable stuff on their beds, and many people’s entire houses flooded.

Climate change and the yearly rainy season caused the floods this year. The floods have turned main roads into rivers. Houses were filled with sewage that spewed out of manholes. Electricity has been suspended for hours or days to prevent exposed wires from coming into contact with water in the streets and electrocuting people.

Even before the rains flooded Pakistan, Karachi was already in shambles, with roads crumbling and slums expanding. Water waves rushed into homes whenever vehicles drove nearby. The severe damage from these floods and the subsequent protests in Pakistan pushed government officials to take steps to buffer the city against the yearly monsoons.
