The eruption of Mt. Etna wasn’t a surprise as , but it eruptions have become more intense and frequent. According to an article from Athens Times, athens-times.com titled “Etna: Stunning Images from the New Volcanic Eruption – Lava Flow at 3,000 Meters”, it stated that “Etna’s eruptions have become more frequent lately, fueled by constant magma flow, open vents, trapped gas and spreading tectonic fractures beneath the volcano.” This has boosted the volcano’s activity and can become a dangerous disaster for people living nearby.
Looking back at Etna’s history, in 1536, Dr. Francesco Negri, a Sicilian scholar, observed the crater of Mt. Etna. While watching the volcano, it suddenly erupted, and a giant chunk of heated rock struck and killed Dr. Negri. Since then, the volcano has erupted 185 more times.
