Is Yankees’ Spencer Jones Going to Get Traded?
New York Yankees’ No. 3 prospect, Spencer Jones, is considered one of the most debated prospects in baseball, according to MLB. As the July 31, 2025, trade deadline approaches, the Yankees’ decision whether to trade Jones may reveal their true feelings about the 24-year-old slugger. If they keep him, it could indicate that Jones is expected to be the Yankees’ center fielder of the future, possibly as early as 2026. If they trade him, it might signal that the club doesn’t believe he can succeed in the big leagues.
Jones cannot avoid trade rumors because his friends keep sending him content about himself. Jones told The Athletic, “There was a post of me hitting a home run and one of the comments was, ‘Get ready to speak desert, buddy.’…That’s a really good one. I saw that and was dying laughing. That is just so good. To me, that’s the really fun part about baseball at this time of year. I really like the creativity that fans have. It’s awesome. I don’t know if I can speak desert.” Jones mentions the possibility of being sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks because of the Yankees’ interest in third baseman Eugenio Suárez, an impending free agent who some say is the best bat on the market. Along with the Yankees, several other teams have shown interest in acquiring Suárez.
Spencer Jones was the Yankees’ first-round pick in 2022. Since then, he has played in the minor leagues. According to MILB, he is awaiting his MLB debut. However, Yankees fans on the internet remain divided on their opinion of Jones. Some think he should be traded only for star-level talent, while others believe his swing-and-miss tendencies and lack of contact are hard to overlook.
Regarding Spencer Jones, he still wants to stay with the Yankees. “I was just talking to my girlfriend about this, and be a part of this organization and stay loyal to it…That’s a big part of who I am and where I want to go in my career.”
