The “Little Miss” trend started small, a few occasional posts of “Little Miss Underemployment,” “Little Miss Weed Psychosis”, or “Little Miss Late Night Binging.” However, like most other meme formats, social media users and corporate advertisers quickly picked up on the creations. Soon, Little Miss posts appeared left and right, featuring niche experiences, political ideas, or brand advertising.

The cartoon characters came from a series of children’s books, Mr. Men, and a spinoff series Little Miss in the 1970s. Creator Roger Hargreaves launched the series to illustrate how a character’s personality trait affects their life, growing the diversity of characters to relate to multigenerational audience and people of various backgrounds.

Influencers began adopting Hargreaves’ illustrations and attaching their own caption. Similar to personality type tests or zodiac signs, people tend to resonate with the Little Miss trend because it is something they can identify with and feel community around. On TikTok, the hashtag has over 140 million views and the Instagram account “LittleMissNotesApp” has gained over two million followers. Social media creators call it the comedy of our time.

While individual users indulge in the specific personal descriptions, businesses such as LinkedIn, Starbucks, and M&M’S began creating Little Miss ads to attract audiences to relate to using their goods or services. However, the use of a wholesome, child-originating meme illustration by companies who have caused so much harm to humanity takes away from the trend.

The overuse by social media users and misuse by companies has beat the Little Miss meme format to the ground. Little Miss has gone too far.
