ICE Agents Shoot Alex Pretti
On January 24th, the second fatal ICE shooting occurred; in Minnesota, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and registered nurse, was killed by ICE agents during a protest that occurred after a small group gathered near federal agents operating in Minneapolis.
What do we know about Mr. Pretti? He worked in the intensive-care unit at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis and was described as a “confident, diligent and respectful person” by a friend. His family, though very sad over his death, was also “very angry.”
In the middle of a protest, an ICE agent started to spray pepper spray. A protester got sprayed, and Mr. Pretti was trying to help them when he was tackled to the ground by several ICE agents. One agent shouted that Mr. Pretti was holding a gun, and, in the span of five seconds, two other ICE agents shot him ten times.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Pretti “approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun,” and the shooting began. Mr. Pretti was also accused of “domestic terrorism” by Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security secretary. video evidence later proved that not only was Mr. Pretti carrying a phone, not a handgun, but he also had a permit that allowed him to carry a handgun on his person. Following his death, there have been even more protests in Minnesota.
