On the quest to follow up the “Toy Story” franchise, Disney’s new $200 million film Lightyear has been banned by several countries in the Muslim world, causing it to lose several million dollars.

When the movie Lightyear was released on June 17, countries including Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates banned the movie due to the inclusion of a scene with a brief kiss between Uzo Aduba and her female partner. Moviemaking studios have allowed censors to take out scenes from movies for global distribution in the past, but this might not be one of those times.

Activists and Disney’s own staff have been protesting because of CEO Bob Chapek’s slow response to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Florida’s governor Ron DeSaintis signed the bill earlier this year in late March, which bans teachings on sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Many Muslims believe that gays and lesbians people sinful. In some of these countries, these people are sentenced to jail and some even keep the death penalty. The stars of the production have called the UAE’s decision disappointing.
