The Appalachia region is experiencing some of the worst flooding that’s happened in years. Scientists say climate change is triggering more extreme weather events like the Kentucky flooding.
Kentucky governor Andy Beshear said that he expected the death toll to rise. He also said that hundreds of homes and businesses have been flooded. Some areas have reported a shocking eight inches of rain in a 24-hour period. Other places have also been affected: 33,000 people are stuck without electricity, and all the rain has caused mudslides, so the roads are impassible. This flooding is happening as the state recovers from the deadliest tornados in its history. Beshear also warned that it could take weeks to find all the victims.
