Driverless Truck Makes History In First Ever Fully Autonomous Delivery

Beep Beep! Traffic is at it’s worst and the road ahead will only create more delays. The truck driver wants a rest, but he has to keep going.

A company called Bot Auto thinks they have found the solution to delivery delays: self driving trucks. These can not only deliver quickly fast, but can avoid accidents and navigate safely. The trucks are equipped with cameras and sensors that tell it exactly where to go. Human drivers need breaks, but a self driving truck could be on the road for long hours, yet still stay “focused”.

On April 29, 2026, Bot Auto delivered a package using their new truck. This trip required no remote human operators and took place on a regular road, unlike many other self driving deliveries. In other words, this was the first self driving delivery to happen like a normal one. The difference was that there was no driver.

This truck has eight 360 degree sensors and 15 cameras that together provide a good view of the road ahead. The truck can scan far ahead, up to 500 meters. It set off from Houston at 1:16 AM, a test to see how well it would perform in the dark. The delivery was completed on time, at roughly 5 o’clock in Dallas. What the delivery contained was kept quiet, but Bot Auto confirmed it was a real delivery for a real customer.

The sudden move might have caused an accident if a human had been driving. But the autonomous system avoided a collision by instantly changing its position within the lane.”

Some think self driving trucks will replace take over human drivers, and yet this new system of operation is cheaper and in some ways, more reliable. Bot Auto says the cost to run their truck is about $1.89 per mile, while human drivers may require twice as much.

With a new technology here, trucking will never be the same.
