Driverless truck completes delivery
History was made on April 29, 2026, when a driverless delivery truck that completed a 231 mile trip from Houston to Dallas. This delivery truck has an AI system, sensors, and cameras to help it complete its journey safely.
This is not the first driverless truck to drive on the road. There were several before this one. However, the other ones had either a human in the vehicle or were controlled by a remote. Additionally, previous ones drove on private roads. However, this one was on a public highway of Texas.
This was a product of Bot Auto, a Houston-based company. To make it safe, 8 sensors and 15 high definition cameras have been installed. This gives the truck a 360˚ view of the road. The computers installed analyze the camera view and detect hazards up to 1600 feet ahead. When it senses danger, the truck immediately slows down to give the car in front space.
To be safe, tests without the driver were run before it went on a public street. The truck’s trip began early in the morning at 1:16am. This was to test whether the truck could work in the dark. That part was successful. There were some hazards along the way. DOGO News said, “At one point, a speeding motorcyclist cut sharply in front of the vehicle. The sudden move might have caused an accident if a human had been driving. But the autonomous system avoided a collision by instantly changing its position within the lane.”
