Deadly Super Typhoon Ragasa Slams Asia, Killing at Least 28 People
Super Typhoon Ragasa, the year’s largest storm, killed at least 28 people and caused huge destruction when it swept across the northern Philippines, Taiwan, and southern China from September 22 to 25, 2025. The storm forced millions to evacuate due to severe flooding and major power outages across the region.
The powerful storm began as a small weather system on September 17 and grew quickly, reaching Category 5 strength with top winds of 177 miles per hour (285 km/h) by September 21.
The typhoon first landed on the Babuyan and Batanes Islands in the northern Philippines on September 22. This forced thousands to leave their homes and resulted in at least ten lives lost. Ragasa also caused power outages and blocked roads in the area.
