My Favorite Holiday

One of my favorite holidays is The Chinese New Year. ay like eating dumplings and incredible seafood. we get to see very beautiful fireworks and shows and clean our whole house. One of the most important things about our traditions is that our whole family unites and eats a very big meal. We also wait until 12:00 o’clock in the night to celebrate and watch a special celebration on TV. my brother, my mom, and my dad went to America, we haven’t done the things we did when we were back in China. That especially made my mom sad because she loved those traditions, even though I don’t really understand why when I was at America. But we were still having other plans that were similar and not bad at all like; cleaning our house, eating good food and watching sports games. Even though the activities we have in America was great, but I still miss my family members and our traditions.
The Chinese New Year originally was found in China of course, but there are a lot of more things and story about it like why people wear red and why fireworks. Today I am going to tell you a story about the 年(Niǎn). The 年 is a monster that comes out at night time only during the Chinese New Year’s Eve. It goes to a village and raid it to eat for himself and steal everything from the village. After years of destruction by the 年, the people decided to fight back. The next time the 年 came, the people shot arrows at it and cuts him. It didn’t hurt the 年, but instead it made the 年 more angry. It destroyed every building and crashed a hole in the wall’s suffices. But an old man accidentally shot a firework in the sky that was red. That terrified the 年 and it ran away. As words spread through China that the 年 was scared of loud noises and the color red, many people prepared for the 年 to come again and to be defeated. The next year, the 年 came and the villagers were prepared. They shot fireworks and pounded on the drums and everyone wear red! The 年 was terrified and ran away to be never seen again. Even though the tale was likely fake, I still believe that the 年 used to roam on Earth.
As time passed and I became older, I finally understand why my mom was sad about the traditions. It is not really about cleaning the house because it is a tradition, it is because you are not doing it with the ones you love the most. And I can see that there is always a bond between you and your family. And this is my favorite holiday, The Chinese New Year.
