Home
The small wooden chair
by the front door
The apricot tree
and squirrels at war
The dirty rug
as you step in
The white railing
where it has always been
The row of shoes
that no one wears
The smell of home
everywhere
Summer
Sunny days by the beach
Under an umbrella, each
Moms and dads chatting with one another
Many kids, playing in the hot weather
Every wave that hits the shore
Ready, jump! Landing on the floor
Goodbyes
As I zip up my suitcase
wondering if I forgot anything
I realize I’m going home
No more fun adventures
or planning what to do tomorrow
Soon it will be late nights of studying
instead of late nights at the movies
Another year until I see them again
everyone
They will live their lives,
and I will live mine
across the world
simultaneously
Thinking back to each summer here
lots will be missed
but there are new memories every year
