Ode to My Special Bunny
Your worn-out fur
and dirty nose
Your missing stuffing
and absent elbows
Your small black eyes
and cute little face
Your hunched-over body
and memories I can’t erase
Your floppy ears
seen from afar
I know you aren’t living
but it really feels like you are
Middle School
During elementary school,
we were cute and a ball of energy
In high school,
we become adults with responsibilities
We run around our lower school campus
Our parents always showed their affection
Didn’t expect anything except for us to be happy
5 years pass and we get to lead the family on vacation trips
Our parents come to us with technical problems
Knowing there were things we understood better
But in between,
We’re still just kids who need our parents’ guidance
But expected to magically know everything
Adopt all behaviors and knowledge of an adult
Expected to act perfectly and robotically
Or else we’re just not listening to our parents
and trying to upset them
Apparently, we don’t understand
because we’re too young
But are made to feel like we’re supposed to understand everything
In elementary school, we’re just kids
Our parents understood if we didn’t make our bed
Or cleaned our room
Because we didn’t know any better
In high school, we’re practically adults
Our parents were too tired to yell at us to make our bed
Because there were more important things
and because they thought we knew what we were doing
So during the transition
Why are we treated like kids but expected to act like adults
We get tired too
The Cat and the Birds
A cat wore a hat
That sat on a mat
While birds in the tree
Blew with the breeze
And got eaten by the cat
