The Kindest Thing Someone Has Done for Me
The kindest thing someone has done for me is to recommend and allow me to join the cybersecurity club after school. I had a very close connection with my English teacher last year, and he is the one who did this thing to me. I am a rather introverted person who often prefers to be alone, as I usually find it challenging to find something to talk about with others. Noticing my weakness, my teacher suggested I join the cybersecurity club that was open only to high schoolers, although I was a middle schooler.
This was very kind because this was beyond my teacher’s duty. Most teachers would not realize that I lack the capability of processing emotions and being social. Most teachers look at the academic scope, which I excel at. However, this teacher is different. My English teacher not only focuses on the academics, such as grades and behaviors in class, but also tries to help the students develop their social skills. This is out of his scope because he was not even the advisory teacher for our class. Furthermore, the club was intended only for high schoolers. He is kind to let me join it, knowing that I would not go to any other clubs. He knows that I enjoy programming and scammer hacking, and I would be able to connect with other people who have similar interests.
The benefit is that I am now really willing to contribute to community FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) projects rather than working solely on my own. I have also gained a few collaborators from members of the club who now help me when I work on my own projects as well. Additionally, I have found their work very interesting. We also now discuss more about reducing the number of hackers out in the wild, reducing the number of reverse-psychological scammers, and other perpetrators of cyberattacks. Through the club experience, I can not only do programming, but also build relationships with others and talk to them. I felt I was more social than before.
I think that this is the kindest thing that anyone could do to help me. Without this, I probably would not be where I am today. I would still be working solo on my projects. Now I am more willing to contribute to what others are doing. My teacher went out of his way to help me succeed. Through this experience, I gained more knowledge and teamwork skills for any future software projects I work on.
