Switching Between Worlds
Tanya is having her 14th birthday party tomorrow at her house next to the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop. She is exhausted today because of overplanning things on her Birthday Party checklist. She even had to go shopping with her mother at the market, Party City, and the bakery to grab the mint chocolate chip ice cream cake.
“Are you sure you gave everyone the invention?” asked Mother with a concerned look.
“I checked!” said Tanya with an uncertain voice. But she wasn’t 100% sure. Her mother wanted her to have the whole house full of kids but she didn’t know that Tanya didn’t want to invite some classmates of hers. Julianna, the school bully and Mira, the teacher’s pet. Once in school, Julianna and her group of minions were yelling about how Tanya stepped on their project when she didn’t even touch it! When Mira found out that a student was playing with his pencil, she told the teacher that he was biting his pencil and the teacher believed it! She always feels like she needs a place where she can leave all the annoying things in this world.
“Got everything?” asked Mother.
“Yes,” said Tanya, looking tired.
Then lets go back home,” said Mother as she dragged the heavy grocery bags into the trunk.
As they’re driving, they pass Julianna’s light yellow colored house. Tanya glanced at the front yard and she saw Julianna and Mira talking while holding her invention for her birthday party.
“How did they get that?” asked herself while looking behind the car to see if there was anything else to spy on. Her head was spinning fast. She was 100% sure that she didn’t give them an invitation or even let them glance at the invitation.
That night, Tanya couldn’t sleep. She was overthinking. She thought maybe one of her friends betrayed her by showing the birthday party invitations to Julianna and Mira.
When she finally slept, she felt like she was in a different place besides her gloomy bedroom with magical creatures like dragons, fairies, mermaids, and elves. She thought that it wasn’t true. The creatures gave her food and played with her in the fields. She loved it there. But she couldn’t understand them. Her eyes were full of tears; she never felt so important in her life. Both parents of hers never have time to play with her or even enjoy dinner together as a family. Some who actually look at her as a friend.
Good work 🙂
