"Clair De Lune" Written by Claude Debussy
“Clair De Lune” is a piano composition written by a French composer named Achille-Claude Debussy. He was born on August 22, 1862, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. Debussy was born into a working-class family, and since his parents didn’t have a lot of money, he had to make his own money to support his family and education. At seven, Debussy’s aunt paid for him to go learn piano with a local musician. Debussy’s music talent at the age of nine was recognized by Frédéric Chopin, and that’s how his music journey started.
Debussy is an Impressionist composer, meaning he made music between the times of the Romantic period and 20th and 21st century period. He has made many famous pieces such as “Reverie”, “La mer”, “Jeux”, “Clair De Lune”, etc. My ultimate favorite though is of course “Clair De Lune”, which is also Debussy’s most famous piece out of all the ones he has written.
“Clair De Lune” was written in 1890 and published in 1905. Debussy first started writing this piece when he was 28 years old, and it took him 15 years to write! It is a romantic piece, and clair de lune means moonlight in French. This piece is very calm, peaceful, and relaxed, and it makes people feel dreamy.
I rate “Clair De Lune“ a 9/10 because it makes me feel like I’m sitting outside, watching the moonlight and listening to the peacefulness of the night. Debussy also added a tense part in the middle, which makes me feel like there is a storm and rain covering the moonlight and getting rid of the peacefulness of the night. Eventually, the storm wears off, and it’s back to being peaceful, which is definitely the best part.
I recommend pianists to play this piece, and for those who don’t play piano, I recommend them at least to listen to this song. When listening or playing this piece, people should close their eyes and just relax and imagine they are outside in the moonlight watching its beauty and light. I honestly think everyone should listen to this piece, especially if they are having a bad or upset day. This piece hopefully will help people calm down and feel more relaxed and dreamier.
