Hattie Ever After
In the sequel to Hattie Big Sky, Hattie left her farm to work at a boarding house in Great Falls, Montana. By pure chance, an eccentric vaudeville group visits them. When their wardrobe mistress abandons them, Hattie is given a chance to join them as they tour San Francisco. Excited by the prospect of a new adventure and a chance to visit a new place, she decides to accept. When they first arrive in San Francisco, Hattie tends to the vaudeville group’s clothes. However, it all changes when Hattie meets Ned Lonetree, a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle. He introduces Hattie to the Chronicle after hearing about her love for writing. She decides to start small and works at the building of the San Francisco Chronicle as a nighttime janitor. On top of that, she also decides to research her deceased Uncle Chester during her breaks, finding out a rather criminal past of his. When she’s cleaning one of the offices of the reporters, she finds a note tucked away, a reminder to do some research for a story. Hattie decides to help and writes the answer down next to a note. This is the first step Hattie has taken in being a reporter. She writes and publishes a story under a byline, and keeps getting more chances to do so.
In the pages of Hattie Ever After, a mystery is solved, an unexpected betrayal occurs, and an important, life-changing decision is made. Not only is Hattie a hard-working individual, but she also has enough perseverance and passion to work on several writing projects at once, which makes her life harder as she interviews her co-workers and continues researching. Hattie has enough grit to be confident and brave even when she is presented with new challenges. Despite the fact that Hattie has to start at the bottom of the ladder and claw her way up to the top, she is unfazed and continues doing her best.
I recommend this book because of its plot twists and the main theme of preserving even when everything is in shambles.
