When Max Carver’s dad surprised the family by announcing that they were moving to a beachside town to avoid the war, Max wasn’t too surprised. The old mechanic was had always been full of surprises, twists, and turns. They were moving into a house that was home to a family that had long since disappeared after the son died, someone called Jacob Fleischman. On the first day they moved there, Max saw a garden full of stone statues, surrounded by mist. The next morning, he went to look at them. The one in the center was a clown, and Max is immediately chilled to the bones when he sees it move.
Choosing to believe that the movement was just a trick of the light, Max runs back to the house and decides to explore the town. He meets a new friend named Roland and makes plans to go diving the next morning. Max’s sister, Alicia, who is older than he by two years, decides to come along. But the dive is the first of many catastrophes to come.
who is persistent in getting his side of a deal made years ago. This is a book that will keep readers on the edge of their seats as secrets are revealed, a gift is lost, and a life is taken. Anyone looking forward to a nice, short horror novel you can read in a night should try this. I give it a solid 8/10 for its suspense, storytelling, and complex plot.
