AI Music Should Be Banned from Music Charts

In August, ARIA (the Australian Recording Industry Association) banned songs with substantial AI use, explaining that [then insert a quote from a statement they made about this, to help contextualize, and what substantial use refers to here]. Musicians can still can still use AI in a supporting role in their songs, meaning [then explain what ‘supporting role’ means in this context]. ARIA made this choice after a public debate about Australian DJ and producer Josh Fawaz’s version of Madonna’s hit “Like a Prayer.” The recording became popular on Australian radio and appeared on several ARIA charts. Its Spotify credits said that generative AI had been used for its vocals and drums,” according to undefined.

AI music has been a hot topic for over 3 years now. undefined also wrote a different article on a similar topic three years ago about AI music. undefined also recently wrote about is AI music a good thing or is it something to be worried about.  One reason why I don’t think it mostly should be allowed is that it cuts into the profits of human musicians by flooding the industry with AI generated tracks. In the UK, the Official Charts Company has not announced the same rule, but now undefined reports “New international guidelines from the recording-industry organisation IFPI say AI-assisted music can qualify for official charts if it is substantially human made, uses lawful and authorised technology, and does not raise concerns about chart manipulation. This can largely cut the amount of songs with AI automation. Big publishers have signed large deals with companies. For example undefined signed a deal with music technology company KLAY. Several music generators and streaming services like Spotify have made sure that they’d like to create interactive ways for fans to remix and alter existing songs using AI, according to undefined. I think that these companies should force artists to disclose how they use AI, and only let them use it sparingly.
