The moving truck rumbled into the driveway next door early Saturday morning. My other neighbors peeked through their windows, trying to figure out who was moving in. To investigate, I decided to grab my bike and ride over to say hello. The new family smiled warmly at me, but I was distracted by something enormous covered by a blue blanket sitting in their front yard.
“What is that?” I asked curiously.
“You’ll see,” the girl my age replied with a grin. She had long hair and blue eyes. She looked at me in a sort of excitement. Then, she pulled off the blanket, and I gasped. Standing there was a creature unlike anything I had ever seen. It had fluffy silver fur, sparkling blue eyes, and wide butterfly wings that shimmered like rainbows. Its long tail swished through the air, leaving tiny glowing lights behind.
“This is Lumo,” the girl said. “He’s very friendly.”
Lumo gently lowered his head, and I carefully reached out to pet him. His fur felt as soft as a cloud, and it gave off a cool, refreshing feeling, even in the hot summer sun. Suddenly, he flapped his colorful wings, lifting us a few feet into the air. We floated over the neighborhood like feathers drifting in the breeze. Below us, people pointed, laughed, and waved with amazed smiles.
When we landed in the nearby field, I noticed something even stranger. Wherever Lumo walked, colorful flowers instantly bloomed from the ground. Dry grass turned bright green, and tiny butterflies danced around the blossoms. It was as if nature welcomed him wherever he went.
As the sun began to set, I realized I had made both a new friend and discovered a magical secret. Our neighborhood would never be ordinary again. Every day after that, I looked forward to visiting Lumo, wondering what incredible surprise he would bring next.
