On Saturday, the Washington Wizards chose Bilal Coulibaly as their
#7
pick, who has massive potential as a defensive player.

18-year-old Coulibaly, standing at 6’7″ and with an armspan of 7’2”, shows great promise, with the makings of a powerful defensive player. He’s also the first Wizards player to wear the No. 0 jersey since Gilbert Arenas, who last played for the Wizards in 2010. Back then Coulibaly was involved in soccer, and he wouldn’t start playing basketball until he was 10, watching his father’s favorite player, Carmelo Anthony. When he was asked about what the number meant to him, he responded, “Actually, I’m very proud to wear that number. I know Agent Zero was the one to wear that, and all the respect to him. I had a great year last year with that number. I hope that continues.”

This year, General Manager Will Dawkins has made a series of radical moves that caught fans off guard. After a week of trading away the team’s veterans like Bradley Beal, which fans were furious about, he and the Wizards organization used their draft picks on Bilal Coulibaly and Tristan Vukcevic.

Coulibaly will need training in offensive tactics to reach his potential, which is something the Wizards have mismanaged for the past few years. He has great defensive potential but limited offensive power. While his ballhandling is superb, he averages only about five points per game, and has a turnover-to-assist ratio of 0.9, meaning he turns over more balls than times he has given an assist to other team members.

Bilal Coulibaly has turned heads as a draft pick who will be further developed by the Washington Wizards.
